Pattern

Thinking about some Asian style pattern for my book. I want it to be very colourful.

Book cover with all of my characters.

XUAN WU

Element: Water

I also designed some pattern for Xuan Wu. I thought it was a bit boring with just blank fabric so I wanted to add some pattern on it. Since Xuan Wu represent water, I made some water pattern. I didn't use them in the end. I feel like there had already too much to focus on, adding pattern will make it look too intense.

Reflection 4

XUAN WU

My main references

Sketch

             Line                                                       Drawing soild filling

Detail
Focus: Snake, face, legs

This took me so long to draw... I stuggled a lot with her clothes. I want to use this pose to show her cuteness and her optimistic personality. The snake looks a bit weird but I don't know where to put it.  it suppose to be entwined with my character but now it just looks like it like a dragon. I am quite pleased with this image, especial the legs. that's my focus when I drawing this and I worked.

BAI HU

Main references

I am not please with this at all, I need to fix this mess...

Bai Hu is my favourite design but unfortunately I fail.. I still need to improve my anatomy understanding... Also I am not quite good at drawing man, I will do more practice in the future and hopefully I can do better next time.

ZHU QUE

This is absolutely my favourite so far. I think maybe it is because I know what I want my image to look like from the very beginning. I like the pose the clothes the folds, the details on hands and feets. I need to do that more offend. Be prepare and certain before you draw.

QING LONG

I guess I just can't draw guys... I don't like it. it is better than the tiger but still there are so many things are wrong in this drawing, like the folds are so wrong, the hair is bad... I have tried to fix this for so many hours but it still bad. I really should learn how to draw guys after this...

Reflection 3

Warm Up

Practice & Study

BAI HU

Sketch

I am happy about this look and I will use this method and style for the rest of my design.

This is my favourite character. I like his canine teeth that I add on him. The right bottom one is very weird, I need to adjust it in the future.

QING LONG

This is not what I want him to looks like... I struggled a lot when I drew him, I don't like his face and expression. It is very different from what I imagined. I might re-draw this in the future if I have time.

ZHU QUE

I am very pleased with her look. But that headwear is awful. I've never draw a headwear or a golden texture stuff. So I need to study and practice a bit about it.

XUAN WU

Made a lot of changes... I spent so much time on this character. I realised I have trouble with drawing kids face. I don't usually draw cute kids so it was kind of new to me. I found a lot of references to help me to make changes. I also changed the hairstyle cause I don't like the shape of my original hairstyle.

Making emotion sheets is fun but drawing faces is a pain. I seem never to be pleased with the look I drew, and I had to change it over and over again endlessly. Every 10 minutes is a cosmetic surgery for these characters. I need to let go, I have already shown too many details in these, it supposed to be a simple and clear sketch and concept but what have I done...
